Minimally Invasive Spine Workshop At NUHS
On 15 May 2016 the National University Hospital (NUH) of Singapore conducted an Orthopedic workshop for doctors. The goal was to help them understand and gain hands-on experience with the Minimally Invasive Spinal (MIS) System and Terra Nova Retractor, and also to familiarize surgeons with Ravine® techniques.
The doctors partook in an intensive discussion about the multi-faceted MIS system, and how approaches would differ depending on the diagnosis. A discourse ensued on surgical procedures: covering from basic techniques (Posterior Approach) and TLIF– Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion, to the use of MIS in fractures and Spinal Metastases.
Prof Naresh, Prof Gabriel Liu and other esteemed speakers then shared real-life cases with the group. This was paired with a live screening of BioSkills Lab (MIS techniques), performed by Dr Robert Lee.
Following this was a hands-on training session, with 1 station being used for the Live On Screen BioSkills Lab and another 3 (1 Ravine + 2 MIS TLIF) allowing participants to hone their skills. After a gruelling 4 hours in the Lab, participants were rewarded with a feast at the luxurious Conrad Centennial Hotel.
To wrap things up, A/Prof Gabriel Liu addressed the crowd with a rousing speech and two other engaging speakers, Prof Michael Mayer from Germany and A/Prof Naresh Kumar from Singapore, delivered a series of lectures to commemorate this special event.
